dvijātiveṣeṇa samīkṣya maithilī tam āgataṃ pātrakusumbhadhāriṇam
aśakyam uddveṣṭum upāyadarśanān nyamantrayad brāhmaṇavad yathāgatam

Seeing him come in the guise of a brahmin, bearing his begging-bowl and ochre garb, Maithilī — since decorum made it impossible to turn him away — invited him as befits a brahmin who has come.

Words: dvijātiveṣeṇa — in the guise of a brahmin; samīkṣya — having seen; maithilī — Maithilī; tam — him; āgataṃ — come; pātrakusumbhadhāriṇam — bearing a begging-bowl and ochre garb; aśakyam — impossible; uddveṣṭum — to reject, treat with hostility; upāyadarśanān — from consideration of propriety; nyamantrayad — invited; brāhmaṇavad — as a brahmin; yathāgatam — just as he had come
